sAIm: Introducing the Public-Facing Sam Agent Orchestration Framework
Over the past year, we’ve been building Sam, a sophisticated agent orchestration system that coordinates specialized AI agents across the complete software engineering lifecycle. Today, we’re excited to introduce sAIm—the open-source, public-facing version of this system.
sAIm is available on GitHub as a foundation for AI-powered development teams. But there’s more coming: the internal Sam infrastructure currently running this production system includes advanced features and orchestration capabilities that will ship as Sam v0.2.0.0.
What Is sAIm?
sAIm is a modular, open-source framework for building AI agent teams that work together on software engineering tasks. It’s built on these principles:
Modular Agent Architecture
Rather than a monolithic AI system, sAIm coordinates 27+ specialized agents, each optimized for a specific phase of the software development lifecycle:
- Phase 1 (Ideation): Analysts, brainstorming coaches, design thinkers
- Phase 2 (Requirements): Product managers who translate vision into requirements
- Phase 3 (Architecture): Architects who design systems and security
- Phase 4 (Implementation): Developers and engineers who build and optimize
- Phase 5 (Testing): QA specialists and security testers
Each agent has its own skill set—reusable tools and procedures—that enable domain-specific work. A developer doesn’t need security testing skills; the security agent handles that when needed.
Skill-Based Delegation
The framework organizes capabilities into 40+ modular skills, each with clear scope boundaries:

This design means:
- No scope creep: Each skill is surgical; you get exactly what you need

Task-Driven Coordination
At the core of sAIm is a task list system that coordinates parallel work:
- Create tasks from requirements
- Agents claim unblocked, unassigned tasks
- Agents work independently, marking tasks complete
- New tasks automatically unblock as dependencies resolve
- The system tracks progress and surfaces blockers
This pattern enables true parallelization—multiple agents working on independent features simultaneously without coordination overhead.
How sAIm Differs from Monolithic AI
Traditional AI systems approach complex projects with a single generalist model. This has fundamental limitations:

The Sam v0.2.0.0 Roadmap
sAIm is the foundation, but the production Sam system running internally includes several advanced features that are shipping in v0.2.0.0:
1. Distributed Agent Execution
Current sAIm: Agents run in the same process as the coordinator (single machine). v0.2.0.0: Agents execute on remote infrastructure with message-based coordination. This enables:
- Scaling beyond single-machine constraints
- Long-running background jobs (e.g., training a model, running tests)
- Cross-team collaboration (agents in different departments/orgs)
2. Advanced Memory & Context Compression
Current sAIm: Conversation history only. v0.2.0.0: Semantic memory system that extracts and recalls:
- User preferences and working patterns
- Project context and architectural decisions
- Learned constraints and past incidents
- Persistent memory across sessions
3. Skill Marketplace & Package Management
Current sAIm: Skills are monolithic files. v0.2.0.0: Skills become composable packages:
- Install skills from trusted registries
- Version and dependency management
- Skill composition (skills that call other skills)
- Community-contributed skill libraries
4. Observability & Audit Trails
Current sAIm: Logs only. v0.2.0.0: Production-grade observability:
- Complete audit trail of every agent decision
- Real-time dashboards for multi-agent workflows
- Performance metrics per agent type
- Anomaly detection for off-pattern behavior
5. Multi-Modal Reasoning & Tool Expansion
Current sAIm: Text-based reasoning over code/config. v0.2.0.0: Enhanced capabilities:
- Vision-based UI testing (screenshot analysis)
- Synthesized workflows (create YouTube tutorials automatically)
- Voice-based code navigation
- Integration with third-party APIs (Linear, Slack, GitHub) as first-class skills
